About Department

The Department of Kannada was established in 1973. The subject was taught as major and basic papers. The department introduced Kannada folk literature and the policy of three papers in 1991. It is one of the leading language Department in the College that has provided an applied edge to the courses being offered. The Department has central library facility and well-equipped modern infrastructure for teaching and research activities. The faculty of the Department has been actively associated with Kannada University, Hampi for Ph.D. Programme and student development activities in various capacities.

Vision

The department aims to make Kannada language an administrative value for language development process, cultural development and create vast literature in the field of Kannada by harnessing potentialities the emerging from knowledge-based globalized environment.

• Create a pool of language expertise to face the multi-language translation challenges effectively with high standards of professionalism and ethics.
• Promote and facilitate multi-disciplinary research practice in Kannada on culture, society, economy and polity.
• Review and design viable language practices for community development at regional and national levels.
