About the College

Shri Sangameshwar Shikshan Samstha’s, Shri Sangameshwar Arts and Commerce College, Chadchan, Vijayapura district, Karnataka State is a premier educational institution in North Karnataka. Established in the year 1973, has to its credit of providing higher education to the rural people, even before the Taluka Head Quarters Indi, where Degree College started in the year 1979. Commerce faculty has been added as a scheme of expansion in the year 1979.Further, UG BCA, BSW, PG M.Com.(2010) & MSW (2015) and B.Sc (2021) courses have been started respectively. Our college is recognized by Govt. of Karnataka, permanently affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi and Re-accredited at B++ Level by NAAC (2.83 CGPA), has a wide area of 18.14 acres of land.

       Many eminent personalities like Jananpeeth Awardees K. Shivaram Karanth, Rashtra Kavi G S Shivarudrappa, Dr. Guruling Kapase, Naadoja Dr. Patil Puttappa, Dr. Channaveera Kanavi,          Dr. Ja. Cha. Ni, Shreerangaru, H.H. Shree Shree Vishweshwar Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar, Dr. G S Siddalingaiah, Dr. M M Kalaburgi, Smt. Jayadevi Tayi Ligade, Dr. S S Wodeyar, Vice Chancellor, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Dr. (Smt.) Syeda Akthar, Dr. (Smt.) Geeta Bali and Dr.(smt.) Meena Chandavarkar,Prof(Smt.) Sabiha Bhumigoud and Prof(Smt.) B.K.Tulasimala, All Vice-Chancellors of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura. Shri Veerappa Moily and Shri Jagadeesh Shettar, (the then Chief Ministers of Karnataka). Dr. S S.Hugar and many others have visited the college and have appreciated the holy service the samstha is rendering in this border and backward region. The college has successfully conducted two District Level Kannada Literary Meets and two Karnataka Sahitya Academy Literary Meets and several Karnataka University Zonal Level Sports Meets like Wrestling, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Table Tennis. So also, has successfully conducted Rani Channamma University, Channamma Sambhrama-4 and Zonal Level Volley-Ball Tournament. The college boasts of securing six Rani Channamma University blues- one in hockey and consecutively Five in Ball-badminton, besides Team Achievement in inter collegiate ball-badminton tournament twice, Individual Achievement in Rani Channamma University Wrestling. Mr. Dattu Hugar represented our college at the national level in Rock Ball. The college has successfully organized several national level/state level UGC funded/Self-funded seminars on varied topics that enabled the academicians, business people, students and public in general to update their knowledge horizons in the field. Encourages SC/ST and economically disadvantaged category students to pursue higher education.

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE COLLEGE

 

    • The college started in 1973, is the first of its kind in the district, to impart instructions in Arts leading to B. A Degree even before Taluka Head Quarter Indi could think of having a college, started imparting instructions in Commerce also since 1979 leading to B. Com. Degree. Didn’t stop, started UG BCA, BSW, PG M.Com. & MSW courses in 2010 and 2015 respectively.
    • The college is situated on Maharashtra-Karnataka Boundaries in Northern part of Karnataka.
    • This premier institution owes its existence to the liberal and generous patronage of H.H Vedanta Kesari Shri Shri Shri Mallikarjuna Maha Swamiji of Jnana Yogashram Vijayapura.
    • The college was/is permanently affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad/ Rani Channamma University, Belagavi.
    • The college is included under both 12(b) and 2(f) of the UGC Act- 1956.
    • The college Internal Quality Assurance Cell ensures sustenance and enhancement of quality of education.
    • The college is Re-accredited at the ‘B++’ Level (2.83 CGPA) by NAAC in 2016.
    • The faculty of the college is highly qualified, motivated and rich in experience.
    • The college has well equipped spacious Computerized Library, with around 26744 volumes and 13410 titles.
    • The college has a magnificent building encircled with compound wall that accommodates for Classrooms with audio-visual facilities, well equipped Computer/Language/Science Labs, Xerox, Internet facility, Seminar Halls, a small but beautiful garden, indoor stadium and other courts like Volley Ball, Ball Bataminton, kabaddi, kho-kho, 200/100 meter running tracks, long jump pit, which enabled in producing university blues and 7 new class rooms are going to be ready shortly.

    • The college has four classrooms with LCD facility and two smart classrooms.
    • The college runs UG-B. A, B.com., BCA, BSW and PG-M.Com.& MSW courses.
    • The college conducts the remedial classes in English and Accountancy.
    • Spoken English/ Career Guidance classes are conducted for all interested students.
    • The college also conducts value added self-funded Career Oriented Courses viz. Certificate and Diploma Courses.
    • The college organizes and encourages the students to appear for campus interviews held at different colleges.
    • The Career Guidance Cell of the college motivates the students to make use of the opportunities from various multinational IT companies.
    • The grievances of the students are cared and redressed by SWO, Student Grievances Redressal Cell and other cells.
    • The college encourages the staff to attend orientation, refresher and other courses to update their subject knowledge and make use of innovative teaching methods.
    • Similarly, the college encourages the faculty to attend and present papers at national and international level seminars, conferences and workshops.
    • The college has hostel facility for ladies numbering 45.
    • The college Canteen keeps energizing the hard played students and staff providing hygienic and nutritious items.
    • The college organizes athletic meets, tournaments and matches at regular intervals.
    • The college has a registered active alumni association to support its parent institution.
    • The college has constituted ladies forum and anti-ragging cell to empower lady students to face the present-day challenges.
    • The college has separate departmental associations like “Economics and Commerce Association, Kannada Sangha, Political Science, History, Hindi, Sociology, English, Social work, Computer Application and PG associations” which promote the special interest of the respective students.
    • The college has a NCC unit with 56 cadets, which strives hard to accomplish its motto “Unity and Discipline” through undertaking wide range of extension and outreach activities of help to the society.
    • The college has a NSS unit of 150 volunteers help students to develop leadership and officer like qualities
    • With the motto of ‘helping the people to help themselves’, the social work department organizes Rural camps.
